Looking at my last blog post about the Norwegian sim of an oceanic impact of a big space rock, I decided to do a little follow-up. I found this post from Signs of the Times that might be a bit alarmist, but might have reason to be. According to SotT, atmospheric explosions are reported several times a year and that there are many impacts every year, as well. The major point of the article, though, is that our leaders and media don't appear to want us to know about these events. I'm still digesting the material, but I can't say I'm surprised that these events would be concealed, or at least underreported. Nor am I surprised by the cost benefit analysis cited - that the cost of finding the smaller objects is higher than the cost of the damage they would do, and so the NEO programs are underfunded. Worth a read.
