We had a great meeting. Eric Scoles, Frank Glover, and Alan Michaels brought their own material along to read aloud. Alan read the full text of a story he currently has out for consideration at Daily Science Fiction, which presents a usually-forgotten side of alien abduction.
We discussed some ideas for meetings over the next year, including a commitment to the quarterly reading meetings. Please contact the Program Officer (Eric Scoles) with any ideas you'd like to see turned into R-Spec meeting topics.
Ruhan and Alan are heading to Chicago at the end of August for WorldCon. Ruhan will be on two panels this year. He highly recommends the Winner of the 2012 Science Fiction and Fantasy Translation Award, Short Story, "The Fish of Lijiang" by Chen Qiufan, (translated by Ken Liu, who has himself been nominated for two Hugos this year). (Read or listen to "The Fish of Lijiang" here.)
We also had a lively discussion of recent events such as the Olympics and Curiosity's landing on Mars.
