Member Craig DeLancey posted news that his new full-length play, BUILD, will get a staged reading at Geva Nextstage on Monday May 4, starting at 6:00 p.m. and running till about 8:00 p.m.  Group's Google calendar More information by clicking the post title.

Member and SFWA Member/Volunteer/Committe Chair Steve Carper posted the news that the nominees for the 2008 Nebula Awards are announced. The announcement says both 2008 and 2009, but in discussion it's mostly resolved that this is the 2009 presentation of the 2008 Awards.

This was a tough one to categorize, and its for anyone who is in SL. Because of what is being asked, newbies probably won't be able to help, but it couldn't hurt to ask.

Franja Russell, the person in charge of the Talis Sci-Fi & Fantasy Portal, needs help setting up the Portal with the March theme that it, as part of the larger body of Alliance groups, will be adopting. She will be on SL at the following times:

Acclaimed local author Nancy Kress will be reading at the Lift Bridge Book Shop, 45 Main Street, Brockport, New York, at 7pm on Thursday, 26 February 2009.

Ursula K. Le Guin will read from her novel, "Always Coming Home," in Second Life on Saturday, Feb. 28th, at 3:30 pm in conjunction with Second Life Librarians and the Potlatch 18 Science Fiction Conference in Sunnyvale, California. Click the headline for more.

As visitors may have noticed, it had been a long time since the site had been updated. There were good reasons for that, but events have transpired that have enabled those of us who can to resume updates. Updates across the board will take some time, but we'll have a bit every week.

There is brilliant material from writers outside the U.S and it doesn't get enough attention here. In our January 1 meeting, subject matter experts Ruhan Zhao, David Pascal and Gabriel Prajitura spoke on the history and public perception of speculative fiction in China, the Soviet Union, and Romania.

Local author Nick DiChario joined us in October to discuss his Campbell Award-nominated novel, A Small and Remarkable Life. Along the way, Nick provided useful insights into the publishing process.
