You may already have seen stories on this, but a remarkable percentage of the people I've spoken to since this occurred did not. A large fireball crossed the Mid-West night before last or so, brightly lighting areas over which it passed and rattling windows and more with a sonic boom. As it happens, we're in a meteor shower (Virginid) and another is about to start (Lyrid), but this is definitely not your average meteor. While there does not appear to be news as to whether any portion of it has been recovered, a Chicago astronomer estimates that the object might have been about six feet (1.8 meters) in diameter with a weight of 1000 pounds (453 kg) or more, depending on its composition.
